Son of Barney and Mary Childs of Huntingdon’s Farm, Sawston.
He enlisted with The City of London Rifles on 4th September 1914 and went to France the following August. He was wounded in the battle of Loos two months later and returned home. Recovering, he returned to France just before Christmas 1915 and transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in the Battle of Loos. He had an elder brother in the army.
